The Machine Learning laboratory supports the research of a number of faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate and undergraduate students in theories, models and algorithms of computational intelligence, swarm intelligent optimization, machine learning and pattern recognition, and their applications on combinational optimization, data mining, ultrasonic motor control, MEMS modeling, economic time series prediction, bioinformatics and systems biology.
Current research projects include artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary computation, particle swarm optimization, artificial immune algorithm, prediction methods of protein structures and functions, analysis of gene expression data. Since 2006, the laboratory was and has been with responsibility for 1 project funded by the National High Technology Research and Development Program 863, 1 project funded by European Commission, 4 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and 6 projects funded by the provincial and national departments. The laboratory has published 2 books, obtained 3 scientific and technological awards from provincial and national departments, published 123 papers including 28 indexed by SCI, and obtained 1 national invention patent and 2 software copyrights. There are 12 person-times who have been sponsored studying abroad by the government or school since 2006.
主要研究内容：智能计算、群智能优化、机器学习、模式识别等相关理论、模型与算法研究，及其在组合优化、数据挖掘、超声电机控制、微机电系统建模、金融时间序列预测、生物信息学和系统生物学等领域的应用研究。具体研究内容包括：人工神经网络、模糊系统、进化计算、粒子群优化、人工免疫系统，蛋白质结构预测，基因表达数据分析等。
主要成果：2006年以来承担国家863项目1项，国际合作项目1项，自然科学基金项目4项、省部级项目5项，获省部级科技进步奖3项。出版学术专著2部，发表学术论文123篇，其中SCI收录28篇，获得国家发明专利1项，软件版权2项。2006年以来公派出国12人次。
